Ready, Set, SCIENCE! ‑ Understanding instructional strategies consistent with current research on teaching and learning science to work in the K‑8 classroom.
The National Academies has synthesized science education research about how students learn science. Ready, Set, SCIENCE! is the practitioners’ guide for using this research to improve teaching and learning in the classroom. In this hands‑on workshop you will engage in activities, reflection, and discussion of the nature and practice of science, the four strands of science described in Ready, Set, SCIENCE!, and come to an understanding of how students learn science. The session will focus on connections between the findings in the National Academies research on science educations and implications for Oklahoma Science Standards. Each participant will receive a copy of the book Ready, Set, SCIENCE! Putting Research to Work in the K‑8 Classroom.
The workshop will be led by Brett Moulding, former Science Director for the state of Utah, and one of the national leaders in science education. In his role as President of the Council of State Science Supervisors, Brett has served on many committees for the National Science Foundation, The National Academies of Science, and the National Advancement for Educational Progress (NAEP) science committee for 2009 science framework and assessment.
