Project WILD

Oklahoma Project WILD is offering a Project WILD workshop on June 19 from 9 AM to 3 PM at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Center for Outdoor Adventure Recreation at Lake Arcadia near Edmond. The workshop is suitable for K-12 educators and costs $15.

Project WILD is one of the most widely used conservation education programs among educators. It is based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world.  Emphasizing wildlife because of its intrinsic value, Project WILD addresses the need for human beings to develop as responsible citizens of our planet.

Project WILD is concerned with providing information, as well as helping students to evaluate choices and to make responsible decisions. In short, Project WILD’s mission is to help students learn how to think, not what to think about wildlife and the environment.

Workshop participants who attend a Project WILD workshop receive both the Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide which focuses on wildlife and habitat and the Project WILD Aquatic K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide which emphasizes aquatic wildlife and aquatic ecosystems. The guides are organized in topic units and are based on the Project WILD conceptual framework. Because these activities are designed for integration into existing courses of study, instructors may use one or many Project WILD activities or the entire set of activities may serve quite effectively as the basis for a course of study.
