A research experience for eight 9th – 12th grade Science Teachers
July 10th-July 20th;
Oklahoma State University
GET in the Field will provide teachers…
with hands-on experiences in geology, an introduction to the principles of geology, and assistance with developing inquiry-based curriculum to use in your classroom. During this 10-day experience, we will explore the geology of Oklahoma with a focus on water chemistry. We will visit several aquifers, natural springs, and the Tar Creek superfund site.
Teachers will stay in dorms located on the campus of Oklahoma State University. We will travel by department van to each field trip. Althought we will not be walking long distances, being able to walk a couple of miles in the Oklahoma summer is a requirement for particpation. Teachers will also receive a stipend for their particiption and a daily meal allowance. Additionally, teachers will receive geological field and testing equipment so that they can reproduce their experiences in the classroom with their students.
GET in the Field participation does not end with the 10-day experience. Participants will implement the curriculum that they develop in their classrooms, as a follow up to field camp.
