The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, with the assistance of the Oklahoma State Department of Education, has produced forty four video clips of students as they participated in field trips to the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge and Tulsa’s Oxley Nature Center. The resulting bellringers address Science PASS for elementary, middle school and high school curriculum. Most of the bellringers are between four to six minutes in length. Accompanying each bellringer is a corresponding Teacher Tool that provides educators with additional information including websites that pertain to the respective science topic .
These free materials are compressed video that are produced as progressive downloads in .wmv format. The bellringers can be viewed on the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s website by going to the PASS Curriculum screen and clicking on the Bellringers link. You can also click the link here. The initial five bellringers were produced several years ago and address Life and Earth Science PASS for Middle School curriculum. Following is the directory for the current bellringers. This directory provides each bellringer’s length, PASS correlation, and the Teacher Tools in .pdf format. Educators can cache desired bellringers on their computer’s desktop, from which they can make their own CD’s.
The filming occurred in 2010. In addition to the valued support of the State Department of Education and other state and federal agencies, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department is also most appreciative of Enid Public Schools, Okmulgee Public Schools, Timberlake Public Schools and Tulsa Public Schools for their participation in this pilot project.
