This Week’s JodyGram

Science Collaboration in the Cloud

This training will be held at SDE in Oklahoma City. There is only room for 25 participants. Science is a collaborative endeavor that crosses geographic and cultural boundaries. The Human Genome Project was completed quickly and cheaply because of collaboration between labs around the world. Today’s students must be taught how to effectively collaborate with their peers both face to face and virtually if they are to be successful in STEM fields. This session will discuss the importance of collaborative projects and demonstrate 5 projects that can be easily incorporated into any STEM classroom:

1. Student generated surveys

2. Class data aggregation and analysis

3. Scientific journal summaries

4. Multimedia lab reports

5.Infographics

On the web:

Online Labs in (Science)

OnlineLabs.in aims to serve as a comprehensive, encyclopedic reference about online labs in a variety of subjects, particularly virtual laboratory simulations for science education. We categorize useful listings for online lab simulations, virtual science experiments and free educational software. http://onlinelabs.in/

Solving the STEM Education Crisis

As technology becomes an integral part of the workplace, science, technology, engineering, and math STEM skills are no longer just “good skills” to have; they are increasingly important to a 21st-century education. http://www.eschoolnews.com/2009/12/13/igniting-and-sustaining-stem-education-2/

 Teachers TryScience

…is a web site for teachers.  This site provides free and engaging lessons, along with teaching strategies and resources, which are designed to spark students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). http://teacherstryscience.org/

Assessment and Curriculum:

This next one is quite important and you all should begin to look around here. As we begin to transition into Common Core, this website will be helpful as you think about how your students will be assessed. We are one of the 24 governing states, so this is doubly important for us! Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers (PARCC) (PARCC) is a 24-state consortium working together to develop next-generation K-12 assessments in English and math. http://www.parcconline.org/
