Introducing the NEW SDE Math Directors – Levi Patrick and Sara Snodgrass

Greetings all!

I am excited to introduce myself to you all. My name is Levi Patrick and I am proud to serve you as the Director of Secondary Mathematics. The Director of Mathematics position has evolved into two positions with Sara Snodrass now serving as the Director of Elementary Mathematics. We believe that our split position will allow us to each focus on the unique needs of the K-6 and 7-12 teachers, while doubling our ability to advocate for all math teachers. I am hoping to streamline the use of the listerv to be mindful of your time. So, with a ton to share, here’s my first effort at boiling things down.

1.       Free Benchmarks for Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra 2

2.       New Elementary Mathematics Listserv

·         Interested in K-6 Mathematics? Send a request to join the new Elementary Math Listserv to Vickie.Hale@sde.ok.gov

3.       CRT and EOI Tests for 2012-2013 & 2013-2014

·         Students will be tested on Oklahoma C3 Standards this year (2012-2013) and next (2013-2014).

·         “Oklahoma C3 Standards” is the new name for the 2009 Revisions of PASS.

4.       Testing for 2014-2015

·         In 2014-2015, students will be tested on the Common Core State Standards. Download standards for your grade or subject here.

·         The assessment consortium, PARCC, has released final versions of the Model Content Frameworks.

·         Sara and I are working to combine the CCSS and Model Content Frameworks for ease of use for all math teachers. Expected by the end of September.

·         PARCC has also released Item and Task Prototypes that provide a much better understanding of what the CCSS transition will mean for instruction and how our students will be tested.

5.       Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

·         Nominations open in November…start considering great 7-12 math teachers now!

6.       We’re Revising the Mathematics Website

·         If you have ideas about what you’d like to be able to do/find/see/link to/download, please let me know! The perilous navigation of the Mathematics Website has caused much frustration and we’d like to remedy that…please give us feedback!
