Topics for 2012-13 Nationwide Genetic Update Conferences:
I. Genetics of Common Human Conditions and their Multifactorial / Polygenic origins.
A. Review Cytogenetic & Mendelian human genetic conditions – most are very rare
B. This conference will look at the polygenic nature of common genetic conditions:
Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose Level, IQ, et. al.
C. And common medical problems with polygenic etiologies:
Hypertension, Obesity, Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes, Asthma, Autism Spectrum, et.al.
D. We will focus on using the data from the Human Genome Project to locate millions of markers within the genome we can use to find those polygenes and discuss the future use of those markers for personalized medical care.
