The Oklahoma Science Teachers Association family is shocked and dismayed at the sudden loss of Jessica Hornberger, Middle School Division Director on the OSTA Board. Jessica was a relatively recent addition to the Board, but had already proven herself to be a tireless worker for OSTA and a relentless advocate of STEM Education. She was instrumental in the planning of the upcoming Fall Conference and was set to play an important role in the execution of the event. We extend our condolences to her husband and small children.
We will greatly miss her cheery disposition and great enthusiasm for our profession and for life.
(From newsok.com, 10.9.13) RIPLEY — A woman died Wednesday after a wreck in Payne County caused in part by low visibility because of glare from the morning sun, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said. Jessica Hornberger, 29, died after being airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa following the wreck at the intersection of State Highway 33 and State Highway 108 two miles south of Ripley. Troopers said Jessica Hornberger was headed south on SH 108 about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday when she attempted to turn left onto SH 33. Because of the glare from the sun, she did not see a car driven by Melissa Valley, 27, which was headed west on SH 33, troopers said. Hornberger pulled in front of Valley’s car and was hit in the driver’s side door. Valley was treated for minor injuries and released. Both Valley and Hornberger were wearing seat belts.
