Geeta Seshamani and Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder s of Wildlife SOS, will present “Saving Wildlife in India, Some Conservation Success Stories” as part of a nationwide tour of zoos across the United States accredited through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The program will take place Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 2-3 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Zoo in the Rosser Conservation Education Center.
Wildlife SOS, established in 1995, has become a platform organization creating a long-term holistic solution to rehabilitating the “dancing bear” sloth in the Kalandar community of India. The group strives to protect and conserve India’s natural heritage, forests and wildlife wealth, while studying biodiversity, conducting research, and creating alternative and sustainable livelihoods for former poacher communities. The group manages the welfare of more than 300 sloth bears.
The presentation will include a 15-minute question and answer session. Seats are limited to 300 guests on a first come, first served basis. The lecture is free. Zoo admission is required to visit the Zoo.
Although Wildlife SOS is mainly known for its work with “dancing bear” sloths, other projects include helping leopards, elephants, reptiles and other animals. Further projects involve environment and biodiversity conservation, as well as reducing our carbon footprint. Wildlife SOS, a registered nonprofit charity in India, USA and UK, has formal cooperative agreements with state governments and forest departments in more than nine states in India.
